About the study

What is this study?

VIE is a women's health company. We are testing whether data from a ring like Oura can show how your cycle works, and how contraception affects it. One day this could help women choose contraception with better information.

What do I need to do?

Sign the consent, answer a short questionnaire, then send us your Oura data export. It takes about 20 minutes in total, spread over about a week.

Can I join if I'm not on contraception? If I don't track my period?

Yes to both. We need people on every kind of contraception and on none. If you don't track your period, enter the dates you remember.

I don't remember exact dates.

That's fine. Give your best guess and choose how sure you are. Rough dates still help.

Getting your Oura data

How do I request my data?

  1. Go to membership.ouraring.com and sign in with your Oura email. "Email me a code" is the easiest option.
  2. Scroll to Security & Privacy and choose Export data.
  3. Click Request your data. You will see "Request on [date] — Pending".

I can't find "Export data".

It's on the website, not in the Oura app. Sign in at membership.ouraring.com on a computer or phone browser and scroll down to Security & Privacy.

My request still says "Pending".

That's normal. It can take up to 10 days. Oura may email you when it's ready, but the email often lands in spam, so check the website again in 7–10 days.

My download link expired.

Links last about 4 weeks. Request a new export the same way and use the upload link from our email.

The file is large. Do I need to unzip it?

No. Upload the ZIP exactly as Oura gives it. It can be a few hundred MB, so use Wi-Fi. If the upload fails, reply to our email and we'll help.

Your data

What happens to my data?

We store it under a study code, not your name. Only the study lead can see it. We never sell it and never share your raw data. Details are in our privacy policy.

Oura's file includes my location and other personal details.

Yes. Oura's export includes things like location history, date of birth and payment-card details. Our system deletes them the moment your file arrives. They are never saved.

Does Oura see my answers? Is Oura part of this?

No. VIE is not affiliated with Oura. Oura did not review or endorse this study, and we don't send them anything.

Will I get my results?

Not individual results for now. You may be invited to try the VIE app early.

Is this medical advice?

No. This is research, not medical care. Talk to your doctor about your health and contraception.

Changing your mind

Can I stop or withdraw?

Yes, any time, no reason needed. Email research@viehealth.io. Within 30 days we delete your Oura file, your answers and your contact details, and we confirm by email. Results already produced cannot be undone, but they hold none of your raw data.

Something changed after I joined (new contraception, pregnancy).

Reply to any of our emails and let us know. If you agreed to a 3-month re-export, the upload form also asks about changes.
